Intradermal Testing on Patients with Putative Allergic Reactions to Local Anaesthetics – Analysis of 611 Cases
نویسنده
چکیده
Allergic reactions to LA agents of the amide type are relatively rare. Although the incidence is not known, it has been widely quoted that less than 1% of all reactions to LA are allergic. 6 Many patients and some clinicians immediately declare any adverse reactions that occur after an LA injection an allergy. Unfortunately, however, many patients who have experienced these reactions never have diagnostic tests to determine the cause of the reaction. This may lead to reluctance on the part of the dental practitioner to administer LA and to provide dental service for these individuals. Many of these patients avoid dental care or undergo general anaesthesia for their regular dental visits.

The Rare Case of a Probably True IgE-Mediated Allergy to Local Anaesthetics
The majority of immediate type adverse reactions to local anaesthetics seem to be non-IgE-mediated. We report a case of a 31-year-old woman, who developed conjunctivitis and conjunctival erythema immediately after intrauterine application of a local anaesthetic. Skin prick testing and intradermal testing were done with lidocaine, mepivacaine, and procaine. Intradermal testing showed positive re...
متن کاملContact allergy to local anaesthetics-value of patch testing with a caine mix in the baseline series.
BACKGROUND Contact allergy to local anaesthetics is relatively common. Patch testing with benzocaine in the European baseline series is recommended for diagnosis, even though a caine mix has been previously suggested to be superior. OBJECTIVES To assess the frequency and patterns of contact allergy to local anaesthetics by using a caine mix (benzocaine, tetracaine, and cinchocaine) in the bas...
متن کاملImmediate- and delayed-type allergic reactions to amide local anesthetics: clinical features and skin testing.
PURPOSE Amide type local anesthetic agents are among the most commonly used drugs in medicine. Several adverse drug reactions (ADRs) have been previously described with their use. Among them, allergic reactions are considered rare. The aim of this study was to describe the main characteristics of ADRs induced by amide type local anesthetic drugs. METHODS We studied reports recorded in the Fre...
متن کاملINVESTIGATIONS ON THE DRUG-PROTEIN IN TERAC TION OF CERTAIN NEW POTENTIAL LOCAL ANAESTHETICS
Generally, plasma proteins owe their binding capacity to the presence of aminoacid units which enter into intra- and intermolecular hydrophobic bonding with a diverse range of endo- and exogenous chemical substances. The intermolecular interactions between the hydrophobic areas of drug molecules and those of plasma proteins play an important role in drug-macromolecular complex formation and...
